The books we read at school tell us powerful stories of who we are, and can be, in the world. Why are so many books on the curriculum about men? What about the rest of us?
We need hope, excitement, challenge and possibility, for every reader. I’m so glad End Sexism in Schools is standing up, speaking out, and demanding better for our children.
Sarah Jane Butler is an author of fiction and non-fiction. Her work includes Starling, a novel published by Fairlight, and short stories – including The Swimmer, anthologised in Best British Short Stories 2011.
She’s currently immersed in writing a non-fiction book about people and rivers through time. Sarah also teaches writing workshops.
