The past is inclusive; History is not.
I have spent all my adult life trying to include women in the writing of History. I am delighted to be part of an organisation which shares my passions.
Dr Paula Bartley is Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Warwick. She is a feminist historian, passionate about promoting women’s history. In 1982, she co-edited and co-authored Cambridge University Press’ path-breaking series “Women in History” aimed at secondary school students.
Paula’s recent books include “Women’s Activism in 20th Century Britain” (2022), “Labour Women in Power” (2019); “Queen Victoria” (2016). Her new book “Trailblazers: the first women elected to government”, a book which looks at women from over 40 countries, will be published May 2026.
Paula is an active member of Women’s History Network. Here, she has organised a number of conferences on women’s history and spoken at many events. She can be seen talking about one of her heroines, Ellen Wilkinson, on parliamentary youtube.
