Girls need to see themselves reflected in the stories, characters, and ideas they study at school. They need to recognise themselves in narratives that explore what it is to be human, and which illustrate different ways in which a human life can be lived.
A sexist curriculum deprives girls of the stories and pictures they need to navigate their adult lives. It deprives them of the ability to see themselves as thinkers.
Women In Parenthesis was founded by Dr Rachael Wiseman & Clare Mac Cumhaill in 2015.
Women In Parenthesis is a Research Centre that supports scholarly work, philosophical engagement and projects on the Wartime Quartet of Elizabeth Anscombe, Philippa Foot, Mary Midgley and Iris Murdoch.
They advocate for the inclusion of women’s work and ideas in philosophy curriculum at schools and in University and have created a number of resources for teachers at KS1 through to A-level. They are always keen to hear from teachers who use these resources, or who have suggestions for future work and collaboration.
