Erin Fetterly

Kaye Jones, ESIS Historian Supporter

By not including women in our history, we are only teaching and learning half of history. The few women that are popularized within classrooms are seen as ‘exceptional’.

We need to change the narrative and show everyone that though these women were formidable, courageous and intellectual, THEY WERE NOT ONE OF A KIND. Women were always participating, influencing and making change. We just need to talk about it.

Erin Fetterly is a historian, researcher, and writer from Ontario, Canada. She is currently doing her PhD with Birkbeck, University of London focusing on examining Georgian women’s intellectualism using their manuscript writing. She received her MA in British history from Birkbeck in 2019.

Her first book “Women Who Kill: A History of Britain’s Most Dangerous Women” was published in 2024 and in June 2025 it won the True Crime Awards Reader’s Choice Book of the Year.

She is passionate about Britain, London and women’s history, interlaced with the histories of knowledge, writing, medicine, science and crime.

Erin recently started a freelance transcribing business as her PhD has uncovered a love for decoding history.

She takes pride is sharing interesting, engaging and educational content on women’s history, her research and her life as a historian, PhD student and writer on her Instagram platform @thecanadianlondoner. Her goal is to uncover and share the lives of history’s overlooked women. To learn more about Erin’s work visit www.efetterlyhistory.com.
